An exciting opportunity has opened up for Healthcare Support Worker to join our team. Make a move to our pediatric unit to make a difference to the experience of children, young people and families in Gloucestershire.

Healthcare Support Workers are a vital part of our team and we have a variety of in-house training courses to support your development. We provide an induction period delivered by our pediatric professional development team. We offer funded places on a variety of continuing professional development courses, including enhanced care skills, HCSW development programme and completion of the care certificate as well as the opportunity to progress to the Nurse Associate programme.

Roles of Healthcare Support Worker, Band 3- Paediatrics:

  • Provide personal care and support tailored to individual needs.
  • Manage saliva/secretions and ensure client comfort.
  • Administer PEG feeds, flushes, and medications with precision.
  • Monitor and manage weight, with a focus on preventing weight loss.
  • Deliver continence care with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain skin integrity through proactive care routines.
  • Assist with all moving and handling tasks, adhering to risk assessments.
  • Anticipate and address the client’s needs with empathy and efficiency.
  • Provide reassurance and manage distress in a calm, caring manner.
  • Monitor pain levels and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Support ongoing therapy to improve posture and comfort.
  • Assist with nighttime routines and ensure restful sleep.
  • Participate in hydrotherapy sessions to enhance physical well-being.

Profile

  •  Minimum of 4 GCSE’s (or equivalent) including English, Mathematics and preferably a Science, Physical Education or Health and Social care based subject
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and email programmes
  • Evidence of Care Certificate completed
  • Evidence of Enhanced care training completed
  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working with children and young people.
  • Clear communication skills; verbally, in writing and the use of IT
  • To get on well with people at all levels, communicate and work effectively as a team member
  • Knowledge of physical and psychological needs of people (patients)
